Xeon Platinum 8580

Intel · Xeon Platinum · 2023 · LGA4677

Overview

The Intel Xeon Platinum 8580 is a server processor with 60 cores, released in 2023 at an MSRP of $10,710. It is part of the Xeon Platinum lineup, using the Xeon Scalable platform, and fits the LGA4677 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Emerald Rapids" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 120 threads for improved parallelism. The Xeon Platinum 8580 has a base clock of 2 GHz and can boost up to 4 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Emerald Rapids" silicon on a Intel 7 process node. This processor supports DDR5 memory across 8 channels, up to 4TB total, with ECC support standard for data integrity in server workloads. It supports both single-socket (1P) and dual-socket (2P) configurations, with 80 lanes of PCIe 5.0 available for storage, networking and accelerators. With a TDP of 350W, the Xeon Platinum 8580 runs hot and requires a capable cooling setup. The cache hierarchy consists of no dedicated of L1, no dedicated of L2, and 300MB of L3 cache — a substantial cache pool well suited to memory-bound enterprise and virtualization workloads.

5th Gen Xeon Scalable 'Emerald Rapids' — drop-in compatible with Sapphire Rapids LGA4677 boards via BIOS update, with a significantly larger L3 cache.
