Xeon Platinum 8480+

Intel · Xeon Platinum · 2023 · LGA4677

Overview

The Intel Xeon Platinum 8480+ is a server processor with 56 cores, released in 2023 at an MSRP of $10,710. It is part of the Xeon Platinum lineup, using the Xeon Scalable platform, and fits the LGA4677 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Golden Cove" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 112 threads for improved parallelism. The Xeon Platinum 8480+ has a base clock of 2 GHz and can boost up to 3.8 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Golden Cove" silicon on a Intel 7 process node. This processor supports DDR5 memory across 8 channels, up to 4TB total, with ECC support standard for data integrity in server workloads. It supports dual-socket (2P) configurations, with 80 lanes of PCIe 5.0 available for storage, networking and accelerators. With a TDP of 350W, the Xeon Platinum 8480+ runs hot and requires a capable cooling setup. The cache hierarchy consists of no dedicated of L1, no dedicated of L2, and 105MB of L3 cache — a substantial cache pool well suited to memory-bound enterprise and virtualization workloads.

Flagship 4th Gen Xeon Scalable — Intel's first Xeon generation with DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 support, and the debut of on-die AMX (Advanced Matrix Extensions) for AI acceleration.
