Overview

The AMD TR PRO 9945WX is a desktop processor with 12 cores, released in 2025 at an MSRP of $1,999. It is part of the Threadripper PRO lineup, using the TR PRO 9000 platform, and fits the sTR5 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Zen 5" architecture. Thanks to AMD Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT), each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 24 threads for improved parallelism. The TR PRO 9945WX has a base clock of 4.7 GHz and can boost up to 5.4 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. AMD manufactures the "Zen 5" silicon on a TSMC 4nm process node. The multiplier is unlocked, making overclocking straightforward. This processor supports DDR5 memory. ECC memory is supported, provided the motherboard enables it. With a TDP of 350W, the TR PRO 9945WX runs hot and requires a capable cooling setup. This processor has no integrated graphics — a discrete GPU is required. The cache hierarchy consists of 64KB/core of L1, 12MB of L2, and 64MB of L3 cache — an unusually large L3 that greatly benefits latency-sensitive workloads like gaming.

Entry-level TR PRO 9000 — 12 cores with 8-channel DDR5 and 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes. Still a workstation-class chip despite the lower core count.
