Overview

The AMD TR PRO 5995WX is a desktop processor with 64 cores, released in 2022 at an MSRP of $6,999. It is part of the Threadripper PRO lineup, using the TR PRO 5000 platform, and fits the sWRX8 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Zen 3" architecture. Thanks to AMD Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT), each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 128 threads for improved parallelism. The TR PRO 5995WX has a base clock of 2.7 GHz and can boost up to 4.5 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. AMD manufactures the "Zen 3" silicon on a 7nm process node. The multiplier is unlocked, making overclocking straightforward. This processor supports DDR4 memory. ECC memory is supported, provided the motherboard enables it. With a TDP of 280W, the TR PRO 5995WX runs hot and requires a capable cooling setup. This processor has no integrated graphics — a discrete GPU is required. The cache hierarchy consists of 64KB/core of L1, 32MB of L2, and 256MB of L3 cache — an unusually large L3 that greatly benefits latency-sensitive workloads like gaming.

64-core Zen 3 workstation flagship. Zen 3 IPC gains over the 3995WX with the same sWRX8 platform and 8-channel DDR4.
