Overview

The AMD TR PRO 3995WX is a desktop processor with 64 cores, released in 2020 at an MSRP of $4,489. It is part of the Threadripper PRO lineup, using the TR PRO 3000 platform, and fits the sWRX8 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Zen 2" architecture. Thanks to AMD Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT), each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 128 threads for improved parallelism. The TR PRO 3995WX has a base clock of 2.7 GHz and can boost up to 4.2 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. AMD manufactures the "Zen 2" silicon on a 7nm process node. Its multiplier is locked, so any overclocking has to come from raising the base clock rather than the multiplier. This processor supports DDR4 memory. ECC memory is supported, provided the motherboard enables it. With a TDP of 280W, the TR PRO 3995WX runs hot and requires a capable cooling setup. This processor has no integrated graphics — a discrete GPU is required. The cache hierarchy consists of 64KB/core of L1, 32MB of L2, and 256MB of L3 cache — an unusually large L3 that greatly benefits latency-sensitive workloads like gaming.

64-core Threadripper PRO on the sWRX8 workstation platform. 8-channel DDR4 and 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes distinguish it from the consumer 3990X.
