Overview

The AMD Ryzen 9 PRO 5945 is a desktop processor with 12 cores, released in 2020. It is part of the Ryzen 9 lineup, using the Ryzen 5000 platform, and fits the AM4 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Zen 3" architecture. Thanks to AMD Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT), each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 24 threads for improved parallelism. The Ryzen 9 PRO 5945 has a base clock of 3 GHz and can boost up to 4.7 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. AMD manufactures the "Zen 3" silicon on a 7nm process node. Its multiplier is locked, so any overclocking has to come from raising the base clock rather than the multiplier. This processor supports DDR4 memory. ECC memory is supported, provided the motherboard enables it. With a TDP of 65W, the Ryzen 9 PRO 5945 is an efficient chip suitable for modest cooling solutions. This processor has no integrated graphics — a discrete GPU is required. The cache hierarchy consists of 64KB/core of L1, 6MB of L2, and 64MB of L3 cache — an unusually large L3 that greatly benefits latency-sensitive workloads like gaming.

PRO commercial 65W variant. OEM / commercial channel; locked multiplier.
