Overview

The AMD FX-8120 is a desktop processor with 8 cores, released in 2011 at an MSRP of $144. It is part of the FX lineup, using the FX platform, and fits the AM3+ socket. Internally, it is built on the "Bulldozer" architecture. The FX-8120 has a base clock of 3.1 GHz and can boost up to 4 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. AMD manufactures the "Bulldozer" silicon on a 32nm process node. The multiplier is unlocked, making overclocking straightforward. This processor supports DDR3 memory. With a TDP of 125W, the FX-8120 sits in a typical power envelope for a modern desktop CPU. This processor has no integrated graphics — a discrete GPU is required. The cache hierarchy consists of 32KB/core of L1, 8MB of L2, and 8MB of L3 cache.

Budget 8-core first-gen Bulldozer. Notably overclockable but had worse IPC than Intel's Sandy Bridge at the same price point.
