Overview

The AMD FX-4100 is a desktop processor with 4 cores, released in 2011 at an MSRP of $109. It is part of the FX lineup, using the FX platform, and fits the AM3+ socket. Internally, it is built on the "Bulldozer" architecture. The FX-4100 has a base clock of 3.6 GHz and can boost up to 3.8 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. AMD manufactures the "Bulldozer" silicon on a 32nm process node. The multiplier is unlocked, making overclocking straightforward. This processor supports DDR3 memory. With a TDP of 95W, the FX-4100 sits in a typical power envelope for a modern desktop CPU. This processor has no integrated graphics — a discrete GPU is required. The cache hierarchy consists of 32KB/core of L1, 4MB of L2, and 8MB of L3 cache.

Entry-level first-gen Bulldozer. Notorious for disappointing IPC relative to Intel's Sandy Bridge i3, which was a faster dual-core with HT at a similar price.
