Core i7-8700

Intel · Core i7 · 2017 · LGA1151

Overview

The Intel Core i7-8700 is a desktop processor with 6 cores, released in 2017 at an MSRP of $303. It is part of the Core i7 lineup, using the 8th Gen platform, and fits the LGA1151 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Coffee Lake" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 12 threads for improved parallelism. The Core i7-8700 has a base clock of 3.2 GHz and can boost up to 4.6 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Coffee Lake" silicon on a 14nm process node. Its multiplier is locked, so any overclocking has to come from raising the base clock rather than the multiplier. This processor supports DDR4 memory. With a TDP of 65W, the Core i7-8700 is an efficient chip suitable for modest cooling solutions. Integrated graphics are provided by the UHD 630 solution, so a discrete GPU is not required for display output. The cache hierarchy consists of 32KB/core of L1, 1.5MB of L2, and 12MB of L3 cache.

65W non-K locked variant. Same 6-core HT config as i7-8700K at a lower base clock.
