Core i7-2600

Intel · Core i7 · 2011 · LGA1155

Overview

The Intel Core i7-2600 is a desktop processor with 4 cores, released in 2011 at an MSRP of $294. It is part of the Core i7 lineup, using the 2nd Gen platform, and fits the LGA1155 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Sandy Bridge" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 8 threads for improved parallelism. The Core i7-2600 has a base clock of 3.4 GHz and can boost up to 3.8 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Sandy Bridge" silicon on a 32nm process node. Its multiplier is locked, so any overclocking has to come from raising the base clock rather than the multiplier. This processor supports DDR3 memory. With a TDP of 95W, the Core i7-2600 sits in a typical power envelope for a modern desktop CPU. Integrated graphics are provided by the HD 2000 solution, so a discrete GPU is not required for display output. The cache hierarchy consists of 32KB/core of L1, 1MB of L2, and 8MB of L3 cache.

Non-K locked variant. Intel notably gave it the cut-down HD 2000 iGPU (GT1) instead of the HD 3000 (GT2) found on the i7-2600K, purely as a product segmentation move.
