Intel · Core i5 · 2021 · LGA1700
The Intel Core i5-12400F is a desktop processor with 6 cores, released in 2021 at an MSRP of $167. It is part of the Core i5 lineup, using the 12th Gen platform, and fits the LGA1700 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Alder Lake" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 12 threads for improved parallelism. The Core i5-12400F has a base clock of 2.5 GHz and can boost up to 4.4 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Alder Lake" silicon on a Intel 7 process node. Its multiplier is locked, so any overclocking has to come from raising the base clock rather than the multiplier. This processor supports DDR4/DDR5 memory. With a TDP of 65W, the Core i5-12400F is an efficient chip suitable for modest cooling solutions. This processor has no integrated graphics — a discrete GPU is required. The cache hierarchy consists of 80KB/core of L1, 7.5MB of L2, and 18MB of L3 cache.
No integrated graphics — discrete GPU required. Otherwise identical to Core i5-12400. One of the most popular budget gaming CPUs of its generation.
