Core i5-10400F

Intel · Core i5 · 2020 · LGA1200

Overview

The Intel Core i5-10400F is a desktop processor with 6 cores, released in 2020 at an MSRP of $157. It is part of the Core i5 lineup, using the 10th Gen platform, and fits the LGA1200 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Comet Lake" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 12 threads for improved parallelism. The Core i5-10400F has a base clock of 2.9 GHz and can boost up to 4.3 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Comet Lake" silicon on a 14nm process node. Its multiplier is locked, so any overclocking has to come from raising the base clock rather than the multiplier. This processor supports DDR4 memory. With a TDP of 65W, the Core i5-10400F is an efficient chip suitable for modest cooling solutions. This processor has no integrated graphics — a discrete GPU is required. The cache hierarchy consists of 32KB/core of L1, 1.5MB of L2, and 12MB of L3 cache.

No integrated graphics — discrete GPU required. Extremely popular budget gaming CPU, consistently one of the best value options on the LGA1200 platform.
