Xeon E7-8860

Intel · Xeon E7 · 2011 · LGA1567

Overview

The Intel Xeon E7-8860 is a server processor with 10 cores, released in 2011. It is part of the Xeon E7 lineup, using the Xeon E7 platform, and fits the LGA1567 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Westmere-EX" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 20 threads for improved parallelism. The Xeon E7-8860 has a base clock of 2.266 GHz and can boost up to 2.667 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Westmere-EX" silicon on a 32nm process node. This processor supports DDR3 memory across 4 channels, up to 2TB total, with ECC support standard for data integrity in server workloads. It supports both single-socket (1P) and dual-socket (2P) configurations, with 32 lanes of PCIe 2.0 available for storage, networking and accelerators. With a TDP of 130W, the Xeon E7-8860 sits in a typical power envelope for a modern desktop CPU. The cache hierarchy consists of no dedicated of L1, no dedicated of L2, and 24MB of L3 cache.

Flagship Westmere-EX — up to 4-socket (and 8-socket with glueless config) enterprise server platform on LGA1567, the high-end tier of the Westmere generation.
