Xeon E7-8870 v3

Intel · Xeon E7 · 2015 · LGA2011-1

Overview

The Intel Xeon E7-8870 v3 is a server processor with 18 cores, released in 2015. It is part of the Xeon E7 lineup, using the Xeon E7 platform, and fits the LGA2011-1 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Haswell-EX" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 36 threads for improved parallelism. The Xeon E7-8870 v3 has a base clock of 2.1 GHz and can boost up to 2.9 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Haswell-EX" silicon on a 22nm process node. This processor supports DDR3 memory across 4 channels, up to 6TB total, with ECC support standard for data integrity in server workloads. It supports both single-socket (1P) and dual-socket (2P) configurations, with 32 lanes of PCIe 3.0 available for storage, networking and accelerators. With a TDP of 140W, the Xeon E7-8870 v3 sits in a typical power envelope for a modern desktop CPU. The cache hierarchy consists of no dedicated of L1, no dedicated of L2, and 45MB of L3 cache.

Xeon E7 v3 — flagship 4-socket+ Haswell generation for large scale-up servers.
