Xeon E7-4820

Intel · Xeon E7 · 2011 · LGA1567

Overview

The Intel Xeon E7-4820 is a server processor with 8 cores, released in 2011 at an MSRP of $1,446. It is part of the Xeon E7 lineup, using the Xeon E7 platform, and fits the LGA1567 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Westmere-EX" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 16 threads for improved parallelism. The Xeon E7-4820 has a base clock of 2 GHz and can boost up to 2.266 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Westmere-EX" silicon on a 32nm process node. This processor supports DDR3 memory across 4 channels, up to 2TB total, with ECC support standard for data integrity in server workloads. It supports both single-socket (1P) and dual-socket (2P) configurations, with 32 lanes of PCIe 2.0 available for storage, networking and accelerators. With a TDP of 105W, the Xeon E7-4820 sits in a typical power envelope for a modern desktop CPU. The cache hierarchy consists of no dedicated of L1, no dedicated of L2, and 18MB of L3 cache.

Flagship Westmere-EX — up to 4-socket (and 8-socket with glueless config) enterprise server platform on LGA1567, the high-end tier of the Westmere generation.
