The AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D is a desktop processor with 12 cores, released in 2023 at an MSRP of $599. It is part of the Ryzen 9 lineup, using the Ryzen 7000 platform, and fits the AM5 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Zen 4" architecture. Thanks to AMD Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT), each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 24 threads for improved parallelism. The Ryzen 9 7900X3D has a base clock of 4.4 GHz and can boost up to 5.6 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. AMD manufactures the "Zen 4" silicon on a TSMC 5nm process node. Its multiplier is locked, so any overclocking has to come from raising the base clock rather than the multiplier. This processor supports DDR5 memory. ECC memory is supported, provided the motherboard enables it. With a TDP of 120W, the Ryzen 9 7900X3D sits in a typical power envelope for a modern desktop CPU. Integrated graphics are provided by the Radeon Graphics solution, so a discrete GPU is not required for display output. The cache hierarchy consists of 768KB of L1, 12MB of L2, and 128MB of L3 cache — an unusually large L3 that greatly benefits latency-sensitive workloads like gaming.
A previous-generation Zen 4 part carrying AMD 3D V-Cache, stacking an additional 64MB L3 die for a gaming-focused cache boost — sharing its clock profile with the newer, non-3D-cache Ryzen 9 9900X despite being a full architecture generation apart.
