Pentium Gold G5420

Intel · Pentium G · 2018 · LGA1151

Overview

The Intel Pentium Gold G5420 is a desktop processor with 2 cores, released in 2018 at an MSRP of $75. It is part of the Pentium G lineup, using the Pentium G platform, and fits the LGA1151 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Coffee Lake" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 4 threads for improved parallelism. It operates at a fixed 3.8 GHz. Intel manufactures the "Coffee Lake" silicon on a 14nm process node. Its multiplier is locked, so any overclocking has to come from raising the base clock rather than the multiplier. This processor supports DDR4 memory. With a TDP of 54W, the Pentium Gold G5420 is an efficient chip suitable for modest cooling solutions. Integrated graphics are provided by the Intel UHD Graphics 610 solution, so a discrete GPU is not required for display output. The cache hierarchy consists of 32KB/core of L1, 256KB/core of L2, and 4MB of L3 cache.

A standard-power Coffee Lake Refresh Pentium at a higher clock speed than its T-suffix low-power sibling.
