Opteron 6278

AMD · Opteron · 2012 · Socket G34

Overview

The AMD Opteron 6278 is a server processor with 16 cores, released in 2012 at an MSRP of $988. It is part of the Opteron lineup, using the Opteron 6200 platform, and fits the Socket G34 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Bulldozer" architecture. The Opteron 6278 has a base clock of 2.4 GHz and can boost up to 3.3 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. AMD manufactures the "Bulldozer" silicon on a 32nm process node. This processor supports DDR3 memory across 4 channels, with ECC support standard for data integrity in server workloads. It supports both single-socket (1P) and dual-socket (2P) configurations. With a TDP of 115W, the Opteron 6278 sits in a typical power envelope for a modern desktop CPU. The cache hierarchy consists of no dedicated of L1, 2MB/module of L2, and 16MB of L3 cache.

16-core Bulldozer Opteron (Interlagos) at 2.4GHz (up to 3.3GHz with Turbo Core) on Socket G34, launched May 2012. Interlagos puts two Bulldozer dies on Socket G34 for up to 16 integer cores, with four DDR3 channels per socket. It targets high-performance two- and four-socket servers.
