Opteron 3280

AMD · Opteron · 2012 · Socket AM3+

Overview

The AMD Opteron 3280 is a server processor with 8 cores, released in 2012 at an MSRP of $229. It is part of the Opteron lineup, using the Opteron 3200 platform, and fits the Socket AM3+ socket. Internally, it is built on the "Bulldozer" architecture. The Opteron 3280 has a base clock of 2.4 GHz and can boost up to 3.5 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. AMD manufactures the "Bulldozer" silicon on a 32nm process node. This processor supports DDR3 memory across 2 channels, with ECC support standard for data integrity in server workloads. It supports single-socket (1P) configurations. With a TDP of 65W, the Opteron 3280 is an efficient chip suitable for modest cooling solutions. The cache hierarchy consists of no dedicated of L1, 2MB/module of L2, and 8MB of L3 cache.

8-core Bulldozer Opteron (Zurich) at 2.4GHz (up to 3.5GHz with Turbo Core) on Socket AM3+, launched March 2012. Zurich brings the Bulldozer module-based design to single-socket Socket AM3+ servers, with Turbo Core and AVX support. It is limited to single-socket systems.
