Core i9-7900X

Intel · Core i9-X · 2017 · LGA2066

Overview

The Intel Core i9-7900X is a desktop processor with 10 cores, released in 2017 at an MSRP of $999. It is part of the Core i9-X lineup, using the Skylake-X platform, and fits the LGA2066 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Skylake-X" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 20 threads for improved parallelism. The Core i9-7900X has a base clock of 3.3 GHz and can boost up to 4.5 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Skylake-X" silicon on a 14nm process node. The multiplier is unlocked, making overclocking straightforward. This processor supports DDR4 memory. With a TDP of 140W, the Core i9-7900X sits in a typical power envelope for a modern desktop CPU. This processor has no integrated graphics — a discrete GPU is required. The cache hierarchy consists of 32KB/core of L1, 1MB/core of L2, and 14MB of L3 cache.

Launch Core i9 flagship (June 2017). First consumer CPU to carry the Core i9 branding. Skylake-X introduced a mesh interconnect architecture replacing the ring bus used on previous HEDT platforms.
