Intel · Core i9-X · 2018 · LGA2066

Overview

The Intel Core i9-9990XE is a desktop processor with 14 cores, released in 2018 at an MSRP of $2,999. It is part of the Core i9-X lineup, using the Skylake-X platform, and fits the LGA2066 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Skylake-X" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 28 threads for improved parallelism. The Core i9-9990XE has a base clock of 4 GHz and can boost up to 5.1 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Skylake-X" silicon on a 14nm process node. The multiplier is unlocked, making overclocking straightforward. This processor supports DDR4 memory. With a TDP of 255W, the Core i9-9990XE runs hot and requires a capable cooling setup. This processor has no integrated graphics — a discrete GPU is required. The cache hierarchy consists of 32KB/core of L1, 1MB/core of L2, and 19.25MB of L3 cache.

Exceptional 255W TDP — the highest of any Skylake-X chip. Originally sold via OEM auction channels only. The 5.1 GHz single-core boost was unprecedented for the platform. Not available through standard retail.
