Core i7-10700

Intel · Core i7 · 2020 · LGA1200

Overview

The Intel Core i7-10700 is a desktop processor with 8 cores, released in 2020 at an MSRP of $323. It is part of the Core i7 lineup, using the 10th Gen platform, and fits the LGA1200 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Comet Lake" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 16 threads for improved parallelism. The Core i7-10700 has a base clock of 2.9 GHz and can boost up to 4.8 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Comet Lake" silicon on a 14nm process node. Its multiplier is locked, so any overclocking has to come from raising the base clock rather than the multiplier. This processor supports DDR4 memory. With a TDP of 65W, the Core i7-10700 is an efficient chip suitable for modest cooling solutions. Integrated graphics are provided by the UHD 630 solution, so a discrete GPU is not required for display output. The cache hierarchy consists of 32KB/core of L1, 2MB of L2, and 16MB of L3 cache.

A locked-multiplier 65W variant of the 10th Gen Comet Lake i7, positioned for mainstream and OEM desktops rather than overclocking builds. The lower 65W TDP allows quieter stock-cooler operation and denser SFF chassis compatibility compared to the unlocked K-series parts, at the cost of a lower boost ceiling (4.8GHz vs 5.1GHz on the 10700K). Retains UHD Graphics 630, making it a practical choice for workstation builds, HTPCs, or systems awaiting a discrete GPU where onboard display output matters.
