Core i5-8250U

Intel · Core i5 · 2017 · FCBGA1356

Overview

The Intel Core i5-8250U is a mobile (laptop) processor with 4 cores, released in 2017. It is part of the Core i5 lineup, using the 8th Gen platform, and uses the FCBGA1356 package, which is soldered to the laptop's motherboard rather than socketed. Internally, it is built on the "Kaby Lake-R" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 8 threads for improved parallelism. The Core i5-8250U has a base clock of 1.6 GHz and can boost up to 3.4 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Kaby Lake-R" silicon on a 14 nm process node. This processor supports DDR4/LPDDR3 memory. With a base TDP of 15W the Core i5-8250U is an ultra-low-power design aimed at thin-and-light laptops. Integrated graphics are provided by the UHD Graphics 620 solution, so a discrete GPU is not required for display output. The cache hierarchy includes 6MB of L3 cache.
