Core i5-2450M

Intel · Core i5 · 2012 · PPGA988 / FCBGA1023

Overview

The Intel Core i5-2450M is a mobile (laptop) processor with 2 cores, released in 2012. It is part of the Core i5 lineup, using the 2nd Gen platform, and came in both the PPGA988 socketed package and the FCBGA1023 soldered package, depending on the laptop. Internally, it is built on the "Sandy Bridge-M" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 4 threads for improved parallelism. The Core i5-2450M has a base clock of 2.5 GHz and can boost up to 3.1 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Sandy Bridge-M" silicon on a 32 nm process node. This processor supports DDR3 memory. With a base TDP of 35W the Core i5-2450M is a higher power envelope aimed at performance, gaming and workstation laptops. Integrated graphics are provided by the HD Graphics 3000 solution, so a discrete GPU is not required for display output. The cache hierarchy includes 3MB of L3 cache.
