The Intel Pentium 4 1.4 is a desktop processor with 1 core, released in 2000 at an MSRP of $819. It is part of the Pentium 4 lineup, using the Pentium 4 platform, and fits the 423 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Willamette" architecture. It operates at a fixed 1.4 GHz. Intel manufactures the "Willamette" silicon on a 180nm process node. Its multiplier is locked, so any overclocking has to come from raising the base clock rather than the multiplier. This processor supports RDRAM memory. With a TDP of 55W, the Pentium 4 1.4 is an efficient chip suitable for modest cooling solutions. This processor has no integrated graphics — a discrete GPU is required. The cache hierarchy consists of 16KB of L1 and 256KB of L2 cache. There is no L3 cache on this processor.
The launch Pentium 4 (November 20, 2000). Socket 423 required expensive Rambus RDRAM memory, a costly and unpopular requirement that hurt adoption. The Willamette die had only 256KB of L2 cache. Intel transitioned to Socket 478 in 2001.
