Overview

The AMD EPYC 7D12 is a server processor with 32 cores, released in 2020. It is part of the EPYC 7002 lineup, using the EPYC 7002 platform, and fits the SP3 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Zen 2" architecture. Thanks to AMD Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT), each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 64 threads for improved parallelism. The EPYC 7D12 has a base clock of 1.1 GHz and can boost up to 3 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. AMD manufactures the "Zen 2" silicon on a TSMC 7nm process node. This processor supports DDR4 memory across 8 channels, up to 4TB total, with ECC support standard for data integrity in server workloads. It supports both single-socket (1P) and dual-socket (2P) configurations, with 128 lanes of PCIe 4.0 available for storage, networking and accelerators. With a TDP of 85W, the EPYC 7D12 sits in a typical power envelope for a modern desktop CPU. The cache hierarchy consists of 32KB/core of L1, 512KB/core of L2, and 32MB of L3 cache.

2nd Gen EPYC 'Rome' — Zen 2 SKU, AMD's first x86 server CPU on 7nm and the first with PCIe 4.0 support.
