Overview

The Intel Core Ultra 5 228V is a mobile (laptop) processor with 8 cores (4 Performance-cores and 4 Efficiency-cores), released in 2024. It is part of the Core Ultra 5 lineup, using the Core Ultra Series 2 platform, and uses the FCBGA2833 package, which is soldered to the laptop's motherboard rather than socketed. Internally, it is built on the "Lunar Lake" architecture. Only the 4 P-cores support Hyper-Threading, while the 4 E-cores handle a single thread each, together yielding 8 threads: the P-cores tackle latency-sensitive and lightly-threaded work, while the E-cores take on background and highly parallel tasks. The Core Ultra 5 228V has a base clock of 2.1 GHz and can boost up to 4.5 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Lunar Lake" silicon on a TSMC N3B process node. This processor supports LPDDR5X memory. With a base TDP of 17W and a minimum assured power 8W, maximum turbo power 37W, which the laptop maker sets to suit its cooling design, the Core Ultra 5 228V is a balanced power envelope suited to mainstream laptops. Integrated graphics are provided by the Arc 130V solution, so a discrete GPU is not required for display output. The cache hierarchy includes 8MB of L3 cache.
