The Intel Core i7-2920XM is a mobile (laptop) processor with 4 cores, released in 2011. It is part of the Core i7 lineup, using the 2nd Gen platform, and uses the FCPGA988 package, which fits a socket on the laptop's motherboard rather than being soldered. Internally, it is built on the "Sandy Bridge-M" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 8 threads for improved parallelism. The Core i7-2920XM has a base clock of 2.5 GHz and can boost up to 3.5 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Sandy Bridge-M" silicon on a 32 nm process node. This processor supports DDR3 memory. With a base TDP of 55W the Core i7-2920XM is a higher power envelope aimed at performance, gaming and workstation laptops. Integrated graphics are provided by the HD Graphics 3000 solution, so a discrete GPU is not required for display output. The cache hierarchy includes 8MB of L3 cache.
