Core i5-661

Intel · Core i5 · 2010 · LGA1156

Overview

The Intel Core i5-661 is a desktop processor with 2 cores, released in 2010 at an MSRP of $196. It is part of the Core i5 lineup, using the 1st Gen platform, and fits the LGA1156 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Westmere" architecture. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading, each core can handle two instruction streams simultaneously, yielding a total of 4 threads for improved parallelism. The Core i5-661 has a base clock of 3.33 GHz and can boost up to 3.6 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Westmere" silicon on a 32nm process node. Its multiplier is locked, so any overclocking has to come from raising the base clock rather than the multiplier. This processor supports DDR3 memory. With a TDP of 87W, the Core i5-661 sits in a typical power envelope for a modern desktop CPU. Integrated graphics are provided by the Intel HD Graphics solution, so a discrete GPU is not required for display output. The cache hierarchy consists of 32KB/core of L1, 256KB/core of L2, and 4MB of L3 cache.

Clarkdale — among the first Intel CPUs to integrate a GPU on the package (dual-die MCM). GPU runs at 900 MHz, higher than other Clarkdale models.
