Core i5-2300

Intel · Core i5 · 2011 · LGA1155

Overview

The Intel Core i5-2300 is a desktop processor with 4 cores, released in 2011 at an MSRP of $177. It is part of the Core i5 lineup, using the 2nd Gen platform, and fits the LGA1155 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Sandy Bridge" architecture. The Core i5-2300 has a base clock of 2.8 GHz and can boost up to 3.1 GHz depending on workload and thermal headroom. Intel manufactures the "Sandy Bridge" silicon on a 32nm process node. Its multiplier is locked, so any overclocking has to come from raising the base clock rather than the multiplier. This processor supports DDR3 memory. With a TDP of 95W, the Core i5-2300 sits in a typical power envelope for a modern desktop CPU. Integrated graphics are provided by the HD 2000 solution, so a discrete GPU is not required for display output. The cache hierarchy consists of 32KB/core of L1, 1MB of L2, and 6MB of L3 cache.

Entry-level quad-core Sandy Bridge.
