Intel · Core 2 Extreme · 2008 · LGA771

Overview

The Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9775 is a desktop processor with 4 cores, released in 2008 at an MSRP of $1,499. It is part of the Core 2 Extreme lineup, using the Core 2 platform, and fits the LGA771 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Yorkfield" architecture. It operates at a fixed 3.2 GHz. Intel manufactures the "Yorkfield" silicon on a 45nm process node. The multiplier is unlocked, making overclocking straightforward. This processor supports DDR2 memory. With a TDP of 150W, the Core 2 Extreme QX9775 runs hot and requires a capable cooling setup. This processor has no integrated graphics — a discrete GPU is required. The cache hierarchy consists of 32KB/core of L1 and 6MB of L2 cache. There is no L3 cache on this processor.

The only Core 2 Extreme that used LGA771 (Xeon socket) rather than LGA775. Designed for Intel's dual-socket 'Skulltrail' platform — two QX9775s in one workstation giving 8 cores total. Not compatible with standard LGA775 boards without a physical adapter.
