Intel · Core 2 Duo · 2007 · LGA775
The Intel Core 2 E6420 is a desktop processor with 2 cores, released in 2007 at an MSRP of $224. It is part of the Core 2 Duo lineup, using the Core 2 platform, and fits the LGA775 socket. Internally, it is built on the "Conroe" architecture. It operates at a fixed 2.133 GHz. Intel manufactures the "Conroe" silicon on a 65nm process node. Its multiplier is locked, so any overclocking has to come from raising the base clock rather than the multiplier. This processor supports DDR2 memory. With a TDP of 65W, the Core 2 E6420 is an efficient chip suitable for modest cooling solutions. This processor has no integrated graphics — a discrete GPU is required. The cache hierarchy consists of 32KB/core of L1 and 4MB of L2 cache. There is no L3 cache on this processor.
Revised E6400 with full 4MB L2. Like the E6320, this revision delivered better value than the original.
